The Panasonic SC-PT954 home theater is a 900-watt (RMS) surround speaker system accompanied with one of Panasonic's upconverting 5-disc DVD players. The amplifier and speakers also promise deep surround sound even at very low volume - the rear speakers are also wireless for minimal clutter. The HDMI-compatible DVD player converts standard definition DVDs (480p) to full high definition 1080p picture, for maximum clarity. The player also has a built-in hard disc drive for storage of digital media, and is iPod-ready. Also included is Panasonic's VIERA Link system, which surrenders basic control functions of the player to an attached Panasonic VIERA HDTV for ease of use and set-up.

This was my first purchase of a home theater in the box system; came refurbished, but everything looks new. Very easy to set up. I went with this system as I liked the "Tall-Boy" speakers instead of going through the hassle of doing any wall mounts and to allow for reconfiguration should my room layout ever change. The two rear surround speakers are wireless in the sense that they connect into an amplifier which is itself wireless. Still learning how to use everything, but the first movie watched on the system was "The Dark Knight" -- plenty of effects to pull out the true surround feature and I can say that was what I was hearing out of those rear speakers. The price was right (about $265, w/ an extra $35 spent on a HDMI cable at Walmart) -- there are probably better systems out there which are more costly, but this one suits my purposes just fine and as a father of two small children, I certainly don't need to be sound-blowing out my windows or anything like that.
